Abstract:Nowadays, the concept of carbon-footprint becomes more important day by day due to its effects on environment and global climate-change. For this reason, countries have tended to reduce their carbon-footprint through legal-regulations. Carbon-footprint is defined as the measure of damage to the environment in terms of the amount of greenhouse-gas produced and measured in terms of carbon dioxide. Basically, it is discussed in two-items: individual and corporate carbon-footprint. Individual carbon-footprint is the measure of greenhouse-gas emissions released into atmosphere as a result of the activities carried out by the individual, depending on factors such as energy-consumption and transportation type. Corporate carbon-footprint refers to total greenhouse-gas emissions from energy-consumption, production-processes and logistics of an institution/organization. It is the carbon-dioxide equivalent in tons of total emissions from production to disposal. Today, corporate carbon-footprint is measured as legal obligation within the scope of the European Green Deal and is important for institutions to evaluate their positions and determine strategies. In this project, studies were carried out to reduce the carbon-footprint of our company, which produces automotive suspension-system parts. Optimizations were made for the klevis bracket, which is a shock-absorber component. One of them is to analyze the part in AutoForm-simulation. Thus, the gross weight was reduced by design change. Welding parameters were optimized using the Taguchi method. With improvements in raw materials and processes, the product carbon-footprint has been improved.
