Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory (BiDoKu) continues its activities mainly for the following purposes.

A) To contribute to the conservation and maintenance of plant biodiversity by finding endemic, narrowly distributed plant species or plant species requiring conservation measures in the Marmara Region, primarily in Kocaeli Province, producing these plant species using tissue culture techniques and transferring the produced plants to nature by acclimatizing them to the external environment.

B) To describe new and improved protocols for the production of ornamental plant species using tissue culture techniques.

C) To examine the effects of plant growth regulators and plant growth promoters on seed germination and organ development of edible plants in a structure-function relationship.

D) To define protocols for the establishment of high-yielding callus cultures, to observe changes in the phytochemical content of medicinal plant species in response to various elicitor applications in tissue culture, to produce plant extracts, and to determine their preliminary antioxidant activities.

BiDoKu collaborates with the private sector and other R&D laboratories in line with the above-mentioned objectives.
