About

Millimeter Wave, Electromagnetics and Security Technologies Research Laboratory  MILTECH was founded in June 2015 as a special-themed research laboratory at Kocaeli University, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering by Prof. Dr. A. Oral Salman. It aims to conduct scientific and technological research on applied electromagnetics in the microwave and millimeter wave regions, as well as to produce various projects in areas such as communications and defense sectors. In addition, MILTEK provides consultancy services to various private-sector industrial and technology companies.

MILTECH's working areas can be given as follows:

1) Antenna Design and Antenna Parameters Measurements

2) Antenna Impedance Matching

2) Microwave Filter Design and Measurements

3) Passive Microwave Components Design and Measurements such as Waveguides, Couplers, Resonators

4) Microwave Amplifier Design and Measurements

5) Radar Absorber Material (RAM) Design and Characterization

6) Electromagnetic Characterization of Materials Using the Resonator Method (Electric Permittivity and Magnetic Permeability Measurements)

7) EMI (Electromagnetic Interference) and Shielding Design and Measurements

8) Electromagnetic Anechoic Room Design

9) Biological Effects of RF and Microwaves

10) Passive Millimeter-Wave Imaging

11) RF Coil Design

12) Other Electromagnetic Structures Such as FSY (Frequency Selective Surfaces)

The following can be given as laboratory infrastructure:

1) A 3 m anechoic chamber where measurements such as antenna parameters, RKA, SAR can be made in the range of 900 MHz - 20 GHz (expandable up to 40 GHz). (This room has the distinction of being the first and only anechoic chamber established in a university for this purpose and in this frequency range in the Anatolian side of Istanbul and the Eastern Marmara Provinces (Kocaeli, Sakarya, Yalova, Düzce and Bolu))

2) NRL arch for radar absorbing material (RAM) reflectivity measurement.

3) X-band waveguides and exciters for EMI and shielding measurement.

2) Various antennas operating at different frequencies: 2 wideband double-ridged (1-18 GHz) antennas, 2 Ka-band (12-18 GHz) horn antennas and one K-band (26-40 GHz) horn antenna.

3) Rectangular waveguide Resonator operating in R-band (1.7-2.6 GHz) for electric permittivity and magnetic permeability measurement.

4) Rework Soldering Iron Set and Solder Fume Absorber

5) Handheld Avometer and LCR meter.

6) RFR and ELF electric and magnetic fields meters.

7) Ultrasonic distance meter.

8) SMA and 2.4 mm connectors and coaxial cables.

9) Various books on electromagnetics and microwave subjects.

So far (as of 2024), 2 projects have been carried out at MILTECH, and joint work has been carried out on 2 projects. Consultancy services have been provided to many private companies and several expert witness services have been given in some cases. One doctoral and seven master's theses were produced from laboratory studies. From all these studies, 2 book translations, 6 SCI publications, 6 indexed publications, and 13 conference papers were made.
