In this study, a new method is developed for predicting oxygen content of a recycle butadiene storage tank in the styrene butadiene rubber plant. The oxygen content in gas phase of butadiene was measured by an online analyzer located in the plant and checked against an Orsat gas analyzer in the laboratory simultaneously. At the same time, the pressure and temperature values of the butadiene storage tank were recorded by the plant DSC system. The values of oxygen content, pressure and temperature were analyzed and a new mathematical model is developed to predict the oxygen content in the butadiene. With this model, the oxygen content in the butadiene tank can be predicted and held within the process limits by measuring temperature and pressure of the tank and calculating the oxygen content.
