Aquaculture production is the fastest growing sector in Turkey in recent years. Economically fish farming started in 1970s and with the started to make marine fish production in 1985 the production has grown considerably in Turkey. Thousands of people are working in the aquaculture sector (fish production, fish feed, fish processing, distribution, marketing and subsidiary companies supporting the sector) in Turkey. With the development of the fisheries production in Turkey, Fisheries Engineers and Aquaculture Technicians contribution is quite high. In addition to the Faculty of Aquaculture which started training in Turkey since 1980's, about 30 vocational schools of many universities have started the Associate Degree Program in Aquaculture after 1990s. These associate degree programs, which have been opened in a very large number, have continued their education until 2012 even if they have not fully filled their quotas. After 2012, all the Fisheries Associate Degree Programs in Turkey have not been given quotas by the Council of Higher Education and this application is still going on. In this research, it was tried to be informed about the purpose of establishment of the Fisheries Associate Degree Programs in Turkey, the contribution of the sector in its development and its current status.
