Özet:

Stress is one of the most fundamental problems in any sector that has enourmous implication on employees and stress may have a negative impact on employees both in their private and business lives and can reduce their quality of lives as well as their success. In this study, we aimed to investigate the potential work stress of teachers who are known as having high work stress and to determine whether work stress differs from terms of demographic characteristics and professional variables in teachers. In this context, our research was planned as a field survey and conducted with the participation of 557 teachers working in official high schools in Kocaeli in the 2018-2019 academic year. Research data were collected through personal data form and work stress scale. Data obtained with data collection tools were analysed using the SPSS 22.0 statistical package program. In order to determine the distributions of the study group, the frequency-percentage calculations and the effect of demographic variables (gender, marital status, age, years of seniority, education level) on the occupational stress were analysed by unrelated t-test and one-way analysis of variance. This research findings show that teachers' work stress is generally moderate and displays that there is a significant correlation between work stress and age, years of seniority and monthly income detection level. There is no significant difference between the levels of job stress of teachers according to gender, marital status, education level and the number of students in the class. The result of the study be a resource for teachers who are working in this field and looking for ways to cope with work stress. This study may contribute to literature in the field of occupational stress as the subject is not studied deeply.
