He completed his undergraduate studies in 1996 at Yıldız Technical University, Kocaeli Faculty of Engineering, Department of Geophysical Engineering. He obtained his Master’s and Ph.D. degrees at Kocaeli University in 1999 and 2006, respectively. His doctoral thesis focused on “Seismic Microzonation of the Kocaeli and İzmit Settlement Areas.”
Between 1991 and 2000, he worked as a Technician and Engineer at the General Directorate of State Meteorological Affairs. In 2000, he joined Kocaeli University as a Research Assistant. He was promoted to Assistant Professor in 2009, Associate Professor in 2014, and Professor in 2025.
From 2008 to 2009, he conducted research at the European Union Joint Research Centre (EU-JRC) in Ispra, Italy, through a joint fellowship supported by the EU-JRC and TÜBİTAK, focusing on “Web-Based Tsunami Early Warning Studies.”
In 2013, with a YÖK (Higher Education Council) scholarship, he carried out research at the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) in Rome, Italy, on preliminary tsunami source characterization related to tsunami hazards along the Mediterranean coasts.
He has participated in various national and international projects concerning earthquake and tsunami hazards. Most recently, he worked as a researcher on the TÜBİTAK-supported project titled “Source Mechanism Parameters, Slip/Rupture Distributions, and Mathematical Tsunami Simulations of Earthquakes Occurring in Active Subduction Zones.”
He has published international papers on tsunamis that occurred along the coasts of Japan, Chile, and Indonesia. His recent work focuses on developing projects and providing consultancy services related to disaster insurance, particularly concerning earthquake and flood risks.
