Unmanned underwater vehicle, with its old and most general definition, is an underwater robot in which an operator enables it to perform a number of functions that can be dangerous and for different purposes, by controlling it remotely. As a system, the Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (UUV) consists of the operator controlling the vehicle, the equipment provided by the operator, the cable connecting the underwater vehicle to the surface, and the crane mechanisms that enable the vehicle to be lowered into the water and retrieved.

While UUVs can be relatively simple tools for taking images and making some measurements through underwater cameras in terms of size and function, they can also be large systems that perform the ability to work autonomously with the help of many sensors on them and perform very complex functions using robot arms (manipulator).
