Prof. SERHAT YILMAZ

Serhat YILMAZ was born in Anamur in 1972. He graduated from YTU Electronics and Communication Engineering in 1995. He graduated from Kocaeli University (KOU) Institute of Science and Technology with a master's and doctorate degree in the same field in 1998 and 2003, respectively. He worked as a research assistant in the Electronics and Communication Department of KOÜ Faculty of Engineering between 1995-2003.  He took part in the establishment and management of the Electronics and Communication Systems Research and Application Center (EHSAM) affiliated to Kocaeli University in 1995 and the Information Technologies Research and Application Center (BILARUM) in 2006. In 1997, “PLC Training Program” was given for KORDSA Technical Staff. In 2008, he took part in the establishment of the Automotive Engineering Department of Kocaeli University, Institute of Science. In 2011, he gave training on “Artificial Intelligence and its Applications” at Gölcük Naval Command.

He worked in the same department as an Assistant Professor from 2004 to 2013 and as an Associate Professor from  2013 to 2024. Between 2016-2017, he conducted postdoctoral research at the Universita degli Studi di Cassino e del Lazio Meridionale in Italy.  He is currently serving as a Professor at the Faculty of Electronics and Communication Engineering. Since 2016, he has been providing theory and method support to university teams participating in underwater technology competitions. In 2023, the Marine Robotics Research Laboratory (KOÜ MARAS) was established at the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Kocaeli University (https://ehm.kocaeli.edu.tr/en/sayfalar/deniz-robotigi-arastirma-laboratuvari-c82   ,   https://avesis.kocaeli.edu.tr/researchteamsite/dral )

His current research interests are numerical analysis, automatic control, unmanned underwater vehicles and computational intelligence. He is a member of IEEE and Turkish Chamber of Electrical Engineers.
