Özet
Bu kitap, sanat tarihi kuramının 18. yüzyıldan 21. yüzyıla uzanan dönüşümünü düşünce, yöntem ve disiplinlerarası etkileşimler üzerinden incelemektedir. Çalışmanın temel amacı, sanat tarihini yalnızca sanat eserlerinin kronolojik ve üslupsal gelişimini izleyen bir disiplin olarak değil, sanatın ne olduğu, nasıl sınıflandırıldığı, nasıl yorumlandığı ve hangi bilgi rejimleri içerisinde anlamlandırıldığı soruları üzerinden gelişen dinamik bir düşünce alanı olarak ele almaktır.
Kitapta 18. yüzyıl, modern sanat tarihi disiplininin düşünsel eşiği olarak ele alınmakta; estetik, sanat teorisi, sanat eleştirisi, antikacılık ve tarihsel sınıflandırma alanlarının oluşumu Baumgarten, Winckelmann, Burke, Kant, Lessing ve Diderot gibi düşünürler üzerinden tartışılmaktadır. 19. yüzyılda sanat tarihinin akademik ve kurumsal bir disiplin olarak şekillenmesi; müzeler, üniversiteler, arşivler, koleksiyonlar ve uzmanlık pratikleri bağlamında incelenirken Kugler, Burckhardt, Waagen, Morelli, Semper, Taine, Ruskin, Riegl, Wickhoff, Wölfflin ve Warburg gibi isimlerin geliştirdiği yaklaşımlar ele alınmaktadır.
- yüzyılda sanat tarihi yöntemlerinin çoğullaşması; biçimcilik, ikonografi ve ikonoloji, toplumsal sanat tarihi, psikanaliz, fenomenoloji, göstergebilim, yapısalcılık, Marksist yaklaşımlar, postyapısalcılık, feminist sanat tarihi, kurumsal eleştiri ve görüntü kuramı çerçevesinde değerlendirilmektedir. 21. yüzyılda ise küresel ve dekolonyal sanat tarihi, görsel kültür, dijital dönüşüm, ekolojik yaklaşımlar, yeni materyalizm, duygulanım kuramları, queer yaklaşımlar, bellek ve travma çalışmaları, sosyal medya ve yapay zekâ gibi yeni araştırma alanlarının sanat tarihinin nesnesini ve yöntemini nasıl dönüştürdüğü tartışılmaktadır.
Kitap böylece sanat tarihinin yalnızca ne hakkında konuştuğunu değil, nasıl konuştuğunu ve zaman içerisinde kimlerin, hangi yöntemlerle ve hangi bilgi rejimleri içerisinde sanat tarihini yazdığını sorgulamaktadır. Bu yönüyle çalışma, sanat tarihi kuramının tarihsel gelişimini bütünlüklü bir düşünce ve yöntem ağı içerisinde ele alarak Türkçe literatüre sistematik bir başvuru kaynağı sunmayı amaçlamaktadır.

This book examines the transformation of art historical theory from the eighteenth to the twenty-first century through networks of thought, methodology, and interdisciplinary interaction. Rather than treating art history merely as a chronological or stylistic account of artworks, the study approaches the discipline as a dynamic field of inquiry shaped by changing questions concerning what art is, how it is classified, how it is interpreted, and within which regimes of knowledge it is constructed.
The eighteenth century is examined as the intellectual threshold of modern art history, with particular attention to the emergence of aesthetics, art theory, art criticism, antiquarianism, and historical classification through the works of Baumgarten, Winckelmann, Burke, Kant, Lessing, and Diderot. The nineteenth century is then discussed in terms of the institutionalization of art history as an academic discipline, focusing on museums, universities, archives, collections, and practices of expertise, together with the approaches developed by figures such as Kugler, Burckhardt, Waagen, Morelli, Semper, Taine, Ruskin, Riegl, Wickhoff, Wölfflin, and Warburg.
The twentieth century is characterized by methodological pluralization, including formalism, iconography and iconology, social art history, psychoanalysis, phenomenology, semiotics, structuralism, Marxist approaches, poststructuralism, feminist art history, institutional critique, and theories of the image. The book subsequently examines the transformations of the twenty-first century through global and decolonial art history, visual culture, digital methodologies, ecological approaches, new materialism, affect theory, queer approaches, memory and trauma studies, social media, and artificial intelligence.
The study therefore asks not only what art history discusses, but also how it produces knowledge, and how the discipline has changed in response to questions concerning who writes art history, through which methods, and within which regimes of knowledge. By bringing these transformations together within a historical network of concepts and methods, the book aims to provide a systematic reference framework for the study of art historical theory in Turkish.
