Abstract

Aims. - The shock absorption of the heel fat pad is assessed by heel-pad compressibility, index measuring the thickness of the heel pad on the lateral radiographs unloaded and loaded by body-weight. Ultrasonography is an easily applicable method without radiation and magnification inherent in radiographs. There are no reports comparing these measurements by diagnostic ultrasonography and direct radiography in healthy individuals and in different clinical entities. The efficacy of ultrasonography in assessment of heel-pad compressibility index in patients with plantar heel pain syndrome was investigated comparing it with direct radiography.
