Since ancient times humans' clothing practices have played an important role in identity building
and social relations by creating a world of images about a person. The fashion concept which
stands out in this context has become a significant communication tool that affects the individual
in a social, political, economic and cultural context depending on the time and different social
cultures. This study focuses on to discover the roles of fashion and clothing practices of foreign
international students as a means of social cohesion and resistance in protecting their own values
of identity performances in a socio-cultural environment different from their own countries. In
accordance with this paper‟s objectives, a focus group interview was held with volunteer
international students, studying at different postgraduate levels of Communication faculty of
Kocaeli University at the end of 2019. The students were asked five open-ended questions
including their fashion preferences and their views on clothing practices. The interview was
recorded, then analysed and evaluated by descriptive analysis method. By analysing the responses,
researchers came to a conclusion that participant foreign students use fashion effectively as a
communication and adaptation tool in their identity performances in a different culture.
