Özet

A leader can be defined as a person who creates strategy and vision by examining his/her environment and who has the energy and knowledge to bring about change. Leadership is a capacity possessed by people who have reached a certain level of personal development. Being a pioneer, being followed by others, having developed problem-solving skills, recognizing potential problems in advance and taking precautions, being able to mobilize oneself and one’s followers, developing creative thoughts and making suggestions to one’s environment, implementing the necessary processes in line with one’s goals, managing one’s emotions and thoughts, making necessary decisions through information management, being open to learning and continuing personal development are among the characteristics of leaders.
With the questioning of characteristics such as trust, justice, honesty and ethical behavior towards the leader; deficiencies in existing leadership types have emerged. One of the leadership types developed due to new requirements is authentic leadership. Authentic leadership, which needs to be researched in the scientific literature recently, is among the new approaches. An authentic leader is a person who is sensitive to the needs of his/her followers and has moral behavior.
Authentic leadership, one of the concepts that concerns many disciplines such as organizational behavior, education, philosophy, sociology, psychology and politics, can be briefly defined as being yourself. Having an authentic stance without being favored by other people enables people to know themselves and to be honest with themselves. Therefore, the concept of authenticity needs to be better understood. Otherwise, people may become alienated from themselves and lose their internal communication with themselves.
