Abstract

Throughout history, it is possible to encounter many events that affect societies socially,

economically and culturally. When societies living in different geographies are examined, it

can be seen that these communities face different natural events that shape their cultures,

social lives, daily relationships and the environments they live in due to these events. At this

point, disasters; It can be said that it is an important learning tool for societies to shape and

intervene in the environment they live in. Disasters are a set of events that can occur by

natural or artificial means, that people cannot overcome with their own means, and that can

have negative social, environmental and economic consequences. The experiences and

cumulative knowledge that resulted from these events played an important role in changing

man's idea of ​​sovereignty over nature and the built environment he created. It can be observed

that especially the devastating consequences of extreme natural events turn into an important

experience and change and transform the built environment specifically for this experience.

These observations are taken into consideration during the production and use of the space as

a disaster precaution; In addition to construction systems, building elements and building

materials, it can also be read through the user's priorities during the organization of the space.

Within the scope of the study, the experiences created by the destructive effects of natural

disasters and the structural changes that occurred as a result of these experiences are analysed

and evaluated by making a historical reading.
