Özet

Deep (poststernotomy mediastinitis) or superficial sternal wound infection is one of the most serious complications observed on patients undergoing cardiac surgery. Although the modern cardiac surgery is performed with modern techniques, there is still no general consensus and algorithm on mediastinitis therapy. Despite all traditional therapy methods; morbidity and mortality rates and long term results are not acceptable. The healing of wounds through topical negative pressure applications that gave way to many surgical branches and as well as cardiovascular surgery over the last 2 decades have had resulted in encouraging clinical solutions. In this study, silver sponge vacuum assisted wound closure method, which had been successfully applied on mediastinum related recurrent wound of sternal dehiscense of those patients who were suffering obesity and myocardial infarction, has been assessed.
