Abstract

Xylaria corniformis and Xylaria mali are reported for the first time from Turkey. Fungal samples were collected from Mu & gbreve;la and Bursa provinces respectively. The morphology of the two species is described and their macro and microscopic characters are illustrated. Their habitat preferences and geographical distributions are discussed. Phylogenetic inferences based on DNA sequences of the rDNA ITS region are provided for both species. Morphological features and molecular phylogenetic analyses support that X. corniformis and X. mali differ from their closely related Xylaria species; X. primorskensis, X. polymorpha, and X. arbuscula.
