Aluminium alloy 2024 is probably the most widely used alloy for aircraft because of their excellent fatigue resistance. The super-hydrophobic Al 2024 surfaces was obtained over time in a single step by using a ns pulsed fiber laser. Different micro- and nano-structures were fabricated by changing the laser output power and scanning speed. The effects of laser parameters on the wettability of Al 2024 samples were examined. As with the untreated sample, all the laser-treated samples have a hydrophilic or super-hydrophilic property. It was found that the fresh laser-treated aluminium alloy surfaces are superhydrophilic. And then, the Al 2024 samples were exposed to ambient air for a certain period. It was found that the CAs of all laser-treated Al 2024 plates increased over time. The surface topography of the samples was measured by using optical profilometer and microscope. FT-IR analyses were performed for the surface chemistry changes on hydrophobicity.
