Abstract

Water is a vital resource for the survival of life. The civilizations established throughout history have always settled around the great rivers and streams. Furthermore, countries that have significant water resources in the process from the past to the present have used these resources as political power. That is why the importance of water has increased even more due to the scarce water available in the world. Especially in the Middle East region where our country is located, water has scarce resources in terms of water resources compared to other regions. Euphrates and Tigris rivers two of the most important water sources and they pass through Turkey and Syria. In addition that the Asi River is one of the most important water resources in the region. The aim of this study is to examine the available water potential of Turkey and Syria and take a look at current water status in the Euphrates, Tigris and Asi rivers which are vital importance in the region. In addition, these rivers which are forming a continuous problem between the two countries, The importance of bilateral relations in Turkey and Syria and what are the demands on these rivers, are among the aims of our study.
