Sliding wear behaviours of plasma sprayed Al2O3 and Cr2O3 coatings under dry friction were examined. A pin-on-disc friction and wear test rig was carried out for the wear experiments. A complete microstructural characterization of worn surfaces was performed via scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results indicated that the wear resistance of the Al2O3 coating was higher than the Cr2O3 coating. Wear mechanisms observed on the worn surfaces of the coatings was brittle fracture and plastic deformation.
