Özet

Handkerchief is a material culture item that continues its existence from the beginning of the Turkish culture history until today. Being ascertained that it has been used ever since the Old Turks, and its usage in both Ottoman palace environment and daily life is frequently observed from the sources, handkerchief has adequately fulfilled its duty of being a culture bearer by being involved in all fields of Turkish community life. :Handkerchief has gained a special presence in daily life, both with its formal characteristics and the functions it undertakes, and has also found its necessary reflection in Classical Turkish Poetry. Attracting attention with its usage as "destmal" by the master poets of this literature, handkerchief has opened the gates of a language by virtually being encoded with its color, embroidery and sometimes with its various meanings.
