PSYCHOLOGY IN THE SCHOOLS, cilt.62, sa.9, ss.2860-2875, 2025 (SSCI)
Teachers who demonstrate academic optimism actively design suitable pedagogical approaches, exhibit proficient classroom management skills, and effectively engage students in the learning process. Nevertheless, the current measurement tools used to assess teachers' academic optimism are constructed solely from the teachers' perspective and fail to address the requirement that students assess their teachers' academic optimism. Therefore, this study aimed to develop a valid and reliable scale to measure teachers' academic optimism based on the perceptions of high school students. Data were collected from two cohorts of 1013 high school students during the academic year 2023-2024 in Turkey. Construct validity of the scale was assessed through exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses. The 29-item Teacher Academic Optimism Scale-Student Form (TAOS-SF) has a suitable four-factor structure, accounting for 54.39% of the total variance. This study employed Cronbach's alpha, McDonald's Omega, and test-retest reliability techniques to assess consistency. These findings indicate that the scale exhibited favorable psychometric properties. The limitations of this study and potential areas for future research are discussed.
