Abstract

This mixed-methods study examines the relationship between social characteristics and professional socialization tactics of teacher candidates. The sample in the quantitative data collection comprised of 487 teacher candidates, whilst the sample for the qualitative data collection consisted of 12 teacher candidates. The results suggest that the participants consider themselves to be inner-directed. Their most frequently used socialization strategies were Strategic Redefinition and Strategic Compliance. Undergraduate and male participants used Internalized Adjustment more than graduate and female participants. Finally, the results showed inner-directedness to be a significant predictor of using Strategic Redefinition and/or Strategic Compliance as a socialization strategy.
