BILIMNAME, sa.2, ss.57-81, 2019 (ESCI)
The religious position of the Prophet's parents (abawayn al-Rasul), who had died before the Prophet assigned as prophet, in this world in terms of Islamic belief and whether they both will be from the saved people (ahl al-najat) hereafter or not, has been discussed by Muslim scholars in various contexts throughout the history of Islamic thought and different opinions have been suggested regarding it. There are many scholars who wrote independent epistles during the Ottoman period. One of them is Ibrahim al-Halabi ( d. 956/1549) who leave a significant trace on Ottoman religious thought with both his works and ideas. Al-Halabi has an epistle on the issue, whose manuscripts exist in various manuscript libraries and was printed under the title of Risala fi abawayn al-Nabi. However, the epistle which the present study edited and analyzed is another work on the same issue, which enables us to think it could be attributed to al-Halabi because of the expression "al-Faqir Ibrahim al-Halabi says." in the beginning of the text, and has only one extant manuscript as far as we find. Not only the fact that it is written by an important figure in Ottoman religious thought and has only one extant manuscript according to our findings, but also it suggests distinctive approaches and ideas about the religious position of the Prophet's parents is the reason why the present study including the edition and analyze of the epistle is studied.
