Özet

In this study, the effects of surface pretreatment and variable overlap length on the mechanical performance of AA6062/AA6062 aluminium alloy adhesive joints were investigated. For this purpose, AA6062 aluminium alloy adherends were bonded with EC 9323-2 epoxy adhesive in three different overlap lengths as 25 mm, 40 mm and 60 mm in accordance with ASTM D1002-99 standard. In addition, contact angle and optical microscope measurements were carried out in order to observe the effects of grit blasting surface pretreatment on aluminium surface morphology. For 25 mm overlap length, the shear strength value, which was 11.65 MPa in untreated adhesive joints with grit blasting surface pretreatment, reached 15.20 MPa with an improvement of 30.47%, the highest shear strength in the study. Shear strength of 11.78 MPa and 8.83 MPa were achieved at overlap length of 40 mm and 60 mm, respectively. The positive effects of the grit blasting surface pretreatment on the adhesive joints were also observed on the damage surfaces, and 100% adhesive damage was observed in the untreated adhesive joints, while the occurrence of adhesive/cohesive mix damage type was possible in the grit blasted adhesive joints.
