Özet

The primary objective of this study is to determine the levels of natural radioactivity (238U, 232Th and 40K) in 46 rock samples collected from the Central Pontides region (Central Anatolia). The radioactivity of rocks is crucial in geology, not only for assessing environmental radiation exposure and its potential health effects but also for monitoring groundwater quality and identifying geothermal energy sources. The specific activity values were determined using a calibrated high-purity germanium detector (HPGe). The calculation of basic radiological risk parameters was also undertaken. The analysis revealed that volcanic and plutonic rock samples exhibited elevated levels of specific activity for 40K, 238U, and 232Th, while the lowest radioactivity levels were observed in ultramafic rock formations.
