Abstract

Assessment of listening, one of the neglected skills in the language classroom, has been reconsidered with the emergence of alternative assessment methods in language teaching. One of these alternative methods is self‐assessment, in which students assess their own performance. For listening, self‐assessment can be achieved through a number of different means such as checklists, questionnaires, journals, etc. This alternative assessment method can foster learners' autonomy, enhance their intrinsic motivation, and improve cooperation among learners if it takes the form of peer assessment.
