Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to organize the numerous openings in the developing and adult skull base. They are subdivided into six color-coded groups according to their locations in the six bones of this region. A chart summarizes their size, content, variations, and most common pathologic entities. Each opening is shown on schematic views of the skull base. A companion paper will describe the openings of the cranial vault and face.
