In this study, a transmitarray (TA) with enhanced gain bandwidth was proposed. Unlike conventional designs, the design is based on a frequency-weighted phase distribution method. After obtaining both the phase and amplitude responses for the transmission characteristics of the unit cells, the array was designed. The transmission phase of the unit cell significantly affects the wideband flat response of the array. While determining the element distribution in the array design with the goal of focusing the transmitted beam at 0 degrees, both the phase and amplitude were jointly considered and optimized frequency-based weighting method was used. Using proposed method designed TA achieves a 1-dB gain bandwidth of 20.94% (between 9.98 GHz and 12.32 GHz). Moreover, the designed structure was proposed as a quad-layer configuration with low-cost FR-4 dielectric layers and simple structure. The fabricated prototype of 13 & times; 13 elements TA was measured, and its measurement results achieved good agreement with simulated results. With these features, the presented design is a suitable candidate for modern X-band systems.
