Food Waste Valorization: Emerging Trends, Techno-economic and Environmental Considerations, Elsevier, ss.227-244, 2024
The rising global consumption of vegetable oils has led to a substantial increase in waste cooking oil (WCO) generation. The inefficient management of WCO disposal has exacerbated a multitude of environmental, economic, and public health challenges. To make a significant contribution toward the development of a circular economy, it is essential to transform WCOs efficiently and effectively into value-added products. This book chapter introduces readers to the resources, classification, and catalytic transformation of WCO to biodiesel. In addition, a review of the nature of WCOs, catalysts, and their utilization to accomplish food waste valorization would be a key learning. The purpose of this chapter is to demystify the science of “catalytic aspects of WCOs” within the framework of sustainable development goal 6, which aims to protect the environment.
