This paper presents design and implementation of a new type of grid-based harmonic voltage source (HVS) that can be used in general power quality experimental studies and experimental active power filter applications in order to create voltage source harmonics and power quality problems. Their experimental results and feasibility of the proposed system were explained in detail. The proposed system has been tested in real time low voltage level in a 5 kW laboratory prototype. The proposed method has very easy mathematical calculations in order to create different types of voltage source based power quality problems (harmonics, unbalances, and voltage sag and swell etc.).
