Elazığ, üç tarafının sularla kaplı oluşu, sınırları içerisinde yer alan Keban ve Karakaya baraj gölleri ile Türkiye’nin en zengin su potansiyeline sahip illerinden biridir Elazığ ili, Türkiye’de son yıllarda su ürünleri üretiminin en hızlı gelişme gösterdiği ildir ve 2019 yılından sonra alabalık üretiminde ilk sıraya yerleşmiştir. Mart 2023 tarihi itibarı ile ilde su ürünleri üretimi yapan 176 işletme vardır. Bu işletmelerden %99’u (176) ağ kafeslerde alabalık üretimi yaparken, bir işletmede ise mersin balığı üretimi yapılmaktadır. Elazığ ilinde 1996 yılında 10ton olan alabalık üretimi 2000 yılında 330 tona, 2005 yılında 463 tona, 2010 yılında 8.010 tona,2015 yılında 9.756 tona, 2020 yılında 23.000 tona, 2021 yılında 26.500 tona ve 2022 yılında 31.100tona ulaşmıştır. Elazığ ilindeki su ürünleri avcılık, üretim ve işleme tesislerinde 3000 kişi istihdam edilmektedir. Elazığ ilinde üretilen alabalıklar büyük oranda Avrupa Birliği Ülkeleri, Rusya, Japonya ve ABD ye ihraç edilmektedir ve 2022 yılı ihracat rakamı 59.810.010 ABDdoları olarak gerçekleşmiştir. İldeki mevcut işletmelerin proje kapasiteleri toplamı 41.780 tondur ve 2023 yılı sonuna kadar yeni kurulacak tesislerle toplam kapasitenin 50.000 tonu aşacağı öngörülmektedir. Elazığ ilindeki mevcut olan su kaynakları maksimum düzeyde su ürünleri üretiminde kullanıldığı takdirde yılda 200.000 tonun üzerinde bir üretim yapılabileceği ve bu üretim ile de Elazığ ili ve Türkiye ekonomisine ciddi bir katkı sağlayacağı öngörülmektedir.
Elazığ is one of the provinces with the richest water potential in Türkiye with its three sides covered with water and the Keban and Karakaya dam lakes within its borders. The province of Elazığ is the province where aquaculture production has shown the fastest development in Türkiye in recent years and has occupied the first place in trout production after 2019. As of March 2023, there are 176 fish farm engaged in aquaculture production in the province. While 99% (176) of these farms produce trout in net cages, sturgeon is produced in one farm. Trout production, which was 10 tons in Elazığ province in 1996, reached 330 tons in 2000, 463 tons in 2005, 8,010 tons in 2010, 9,756 tons in 2015, 23,000 tons in 2020, 26,500 tons in 2021 and 31,100 tons in 2022. 3000 people are employed in fishing, aquaculture production and processing facilities in the province of Elazığ. The trout produced in the province of Elazığ are largely exported to European Union Countries, Russia, Japan and the USA and the export value for 2022 was realized as 59,810,010 USD. The total project capacity of the fish farms in the province of Elazığ is 41,780 tons and it is predicted that the total capacity will exceed 50,000 tons with the new facilities to be established by the end of 2023. It is foreseen that if the existing water resources in the province of Elazig are used in the production of aquaculture at the maximum level, a production of over 200,000 tons can be made per year and this production will make a serious contribution to the economy of Elazığ province and Türkiye.
