Intralesional injection is defined as injection of a systemic medication directly into a specific skin lesion in order to minimize its systemic side effects. The most commonly used drugs for the intralesional treatments are corticosteroids. Although many new therapeutic agents and methods developed in recent years, intralesional corticosteroid applications by dermatologists continue to be widely used as a simple, cheap, safe and effective treatment method. Most preferred corticosteroid preparations for the application are triamcinolone acetonide and triamcinolone diacetate. All corticosteroid preperations have antiinflammatory, antiproliferative and immunosuppressive effects. Based on these effects, intralesional corticosteroid injections are used for the treatment of many acute and chronic inflammatory skin diseases.
