Özet

Aim: In this study, it was aimed to determine the intercultural sensitivity levels of midwives and to examine the effect of this on their perception of conscience. Methods: A descriptive research study was carried out using an online questionnaire form. The sample of the study consisted of 287 midwives working in primary, secondary and tertiary health services who agreed to participate in the study between September and October 2020. "Personal Information Form", "Intercultural Sensitivity Scale" and "Perceptions of Conscience Questionnaire" were used to collect data. Frequencies, mean, standard deviation, percentages, Mann-Whitney U, Kruskal Wallis and Spearman Correlation Test were used for statistical analysis. Results: According to the data obtained from the study, a significant positive correlation was found between the age and monthly working hours of the midwives with their cultural sensitivity (p<0.05). A statistically significant difference was found between the number of foreign persons who were cared for and their foreign language skills, with the level of conscience perception of midwives (p<0.05). There is a positive and significant relationship between the total scores of the Intercultural Sensitivity Scale and the Perception of Conscience Questionnaire (p <0.01). Conclusion: According to the results obtained, it was determined that as the cultural sensitivity of midwives increased, their level of conscience perception also increased. It can be said that organizing trainings to increase the cultural sensitivity and awareness of midwives can have a positive effect on their conscience perception towards the individuals they care for.
