This paper aims to adopt a feminist perspective on InternationalRelations and security studies by focusing on Syrian women’sexperiences of migration. Turkey hosts around 1.6 million Syrian womenwho fled the country with the start of the civil war. While Syrianrefugees altogether face problems related to adjusting to, living andworking in a different society, women may face gendered insecuritiesthat are related to the reconstruction of patriarchy within the refugeecommunity in the host country. As the feminist International Relationsstudies argue, gender is a useful instrument in analysing the insecuritiesof human beings. Based on data collected through interviews withSyrian women living in Kocaeli city, this study aims to reveal how gendershapes Syrian refugee women’s perceptions of insecurity. The articleanalyses women’s decisions to leave the conflict zone, to settle in adifferent country, and their perceptions of security in their new socialenvironment.
