Özet

In the present study, it was aimed to fabricate a water selective sulphuric acid (SA) incorporated poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)/maleic acid (MA) membrane to enhance conversion of reaction which was carried out between the isopropyl alcohol and acetic acid. Membranes were prepared by phase inversion technique. SA content in membrane and the cross-linking evidence of MA were characterized using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy. Hydrophilicity of the membrane was characterized by means of contact angle measurement. After the characterization, reactions were carried out in a lab-scale batch membrane reactor at different temperatures with equal molar ratio of acetic acid/isopropyl alcohol. Catalytic membranes prepared were cut into pieces and used as heterogeneous catalyst to determine the reaction capability of the membranes. In order to determine the activity of the catalytic membrane, reactions were also carried out with homogeneous SA.
