Solid particle erosion behaviours of thermal sprayed ceramic (Al2O3, Cr2O3), metallic (NiAl) and carbide (WC-Co) coatings were investigated. Effects of the erosion test parameters such as impingement angle and particle feed rate on the erosion behaviours of the coatings were studied. An air-jet erosion test rig was carried out for the erosion experiments with silica particles. A complete microstructural characterization of the eroded surfaces was performed via scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The erosion resistances of the coatings showed differences with particle impingement angle, mass of the erodent, the coating properties and the coating techniques.
