Abstract

A wavelet subdivision surfaces based flexible multiple description 3-D model coding approach is proposed in this paper. The proposed method is based on the wavelet subdivision surfaces strategy for 3-D model coding and introduces multiple description capabilities. The employed multiple description strategy facilitates a completely flexible number of co-description. As the approach is based on subdivision surfaces, the connectivity information does not need to be encoded, however it is required that the base mesh is encoded within each description.
