Özet
Being the first hazardous and clinical waste incinerator in Turkey, there is a continuous speculation about the IZAYDAS and its mission on the local media as well as among the local people. Although the plant is equipped with a state of the art gas treatment technology, there is a common belief that chemicals out of incineration can not be treated enough, and the incinerators are potential risk technologies. This study is on the health risk assessment of dioxin/furans (PCDD/Fs) and their congeners in the area where IZAYDAS is located. The population of the study area was chosen as a urban population having 10,000 people. For this population, Tolerable Daily Intake (TDI) values were determined as 42.9142, 6.4333 and 3.6764 pg-TEQ/kg/d, for babies, children and adults, respectively. Being the first risk assessment study in the area, it will be not only a scientific evaluation of IZAYDAS'\s dioxin/furan pollution but also an example for similar studies in the future.
