The purpose is to analyze reading and investigation habits of 1st grade
and 4th grade students who are studying at Physical Education and Sports
Teaching of Kocaeli University. In line with this purpose, 1st and 4th grade
students of Kocaeli University Physical Education and Sports Teaching
Department were included in the study, since it was available using the
appropriate sampling method among non-random sampling methods in 2014-2015. 22-question
survey which interrogates reading and investigation habits has been prepared
besides socio-demographic features of students in consideration of literature
searches done in line with this purpose. After taking necessary permissions, students
has been informed about research. Frequency percentage distributions have been
extracted in the SPSS 25.0 package program. When the results of the study were
examined, it was found that the habit of reading books in the first grade of
the students of the Department of Physical Education and Sports Teaching was
87.8%, and it was 95.8% in the 4th grade. On the other hand, the proficiency
rate of the printed books about sports of the teacher candidates; 87.8% of 1st
graders answered no and 76.1% of 4th graders answered no. It was observed that
85.1% of the first grade teachers answered yes, and 85.9% of the 4th graders
answered yes to the question, would you do research on your field. Do you
attend seminars related to your field? While 24% of 1st graders answered yes to
the question; 84% of the 4th graders answered yes. In the light of all these
data; It was concluded that both groups had a high rate of reading habits,
found the sources of sports-related books insufficient, and were eager to work
on their fields. Finally, to the question about participation in seminars and
congresses related to the field, the first year students; Stating that they
participate at a low rate, the last year students; He stated that they have a
significant participation. It made us think that the last year students may
have increased their participation in field activities such as symposiums and
congresses due to the fact that they have reached the appropriate level for
academic progress and during the transition to the profession.
