Feeding systems of intermediate products are one of the most important steps in ensuring full system automation towards the fourth industrial revolution. Feeding systems generally consist of mechanical solutions. However, some production components cannot be fed to production cells with known methods due to mechanical restrictions such as fragility or sensitivity. In this paper, novel background estimation and edge detection methods are proposed to provide reliable magnetic core feeding by visual inspection methods. Mechanical solutions were inadequate due to the irregular shapes of magnetic cores. Also, the contortion of magnetic cores causes additional drawbacks. To overcome this problem, a method is developed to determine which products can be caught by the gripper and to check the conformity of their shapes to increase production yield. The proposed method provides a decisive feeding process and ensures 100% accuracy.
