Assist. Prof. Dr. Rüştü TAŞTAN, DVM PhD

RESUME

Assist. Prof. Dr. Rüştü Taştan graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in 1988. He completed his doctorate at the Department of Microbiology at the AU(Ankara University) Health Sciences Institute in March 1995 and became a Doctor of Veterinary Microbiology. He worked as a research veterinarian at the Veterinary Control and Research Institutes and other research institutions affiliated with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs between 1992-2001. He voluntarily resigned from his position at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and started working as a faculty member at Kocaeli University Kocaeli Health Services Vocational School in July 2001. He continues his education, teaching and research duties at this institution.

Assist. Prof. Dr. Rüştü Taştan’s areas of interest include Veterinary Microbiology, Veterinary Public Health, zoonotic pathogens and epidemics ecology and epidemiology.

Starting from 2005, Dr. Taştan has been working on the following topics for the last 20 years, respectively: Globalization and Infections, Global Infectious Diseases’  effects on Health, Climate Change and Its Relationship with Infections, Climate Change and Vector-Borne Diseases, Climate Change and Urban Zoonoses, Emerging Zoonotic Diseases and Veterinary Public Health, Biodiversity Loss and Emerging Pathogens, Zoonotic Pandemics and the One Health Approach and One Health Education in Health Professions. In order to make a difference in Health Professions Education, draw attention to 21st century health threats and increase public awareness on complex health issues of the 21st century, 3 new lessons have been developed by Assist. Prof. Dr. Rüştü Taştan in the last 15 years. 1) “Global Infectious Diseases”, which has been taught at the associate degree level at Kocaeli University Kocaeli Health Services Vocational School for 15 years, 2) “One Health and Biosecurity” lesson, which has been taught at the undergraduate level to students from various faculties for the last 9 years, and 3) “One Health Education” lesson, which were opened in the 2023-2024 academic year at Kocaeli Health Services Vocational School and are planned to be taught at the associate degree level.

Assist. Prof. Dr. Rüştü Taştan is the Chief Editor and chapter writer of two One Health books that published as “binary book”. One of the books, which is an original work in its field in Turkey, is One Health, Confornting Complex Health Problems of the 21st Century, published in 2022, and the other is Current One Health, Thought Evolution from Zoonotic Threats to Climatic Disasters and Ecotoxicological Problems, published in 2023.
